Bancroft Hall, U.S. Naval Academy
RTKL was hired to take on the first major renovation of the U.S. Naval Academy’s Bancroft Hall, the largest dormitory residence in the country. This phased redevelopment met challenges of preventing the interruption of everyday school life, designing in concert with the complex’s historic identity, and accommodating current and future technological and educational developments.
Cooper-Lewis Condominiums
This new residential project in a growing area of Washington, DC, transforms the historic Pelz building into modern design aimed at a young and urban demographic. The former hardware store, built in 1897, is now made up of street-level retail and two innovative walk-up residences that blend historic features with today’s conveniences.
U.S. Capitol Visitor Center
The new 580,000--SF Capitol Visitor Center is a project of historic dimension, creating a richer and more meaningful experience for the more than three million visitors annually. Designed to introduce visitors to the U.S. Capitol without compromising its integrity, the underground secure facility aims to inspire and educate with a sequence of visual events culminating in the entrance to the Capitol.

Renaissance Grand Hotel
In a revitalizing district of downtown St. Louis, a historically significant hotel built in 1917 has been restored to its original glory. The project combines the historic Statler Hotel with an adjacent hotel and a new addition. Funded in part by tax credits, the hotel’s exterior, lobby, and rooftop ballroom were resorted, and the new construction maintains the historical architectural character.
Ariel Rios Federal Building
As the new headquarters building for the Environmental Protection Agency, the Ariel Rios Federal Building in Washington, D.C, has been renovated to encapsulate the ideals of its agency. Sustainable design concepts incorporated into the building demonstrate the EPA’s commitment to the environment, while maintaining the historic quality of the nationally listed site.
