This expansion project, designed to enhance the patient and family healing experience, nearly doubles the size of the existing facility, transforming it from a suburban hospital to a full-service urban hospital able to perform complex medical procedures. The one million-SF expansion features a six-story tower that houses one of the largest and most advanced women's and children's hospitals in the country.

The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano
The new high-tech, full-service cardiovascular hospital adjacent to the Baylor Regional Medical Center was designed to support advanced clinical protocols. Featuring 68 ICU-capable private rooms for improved safety and efficiency, the 198,000-SF technologically sophisticated building provides upscale hotel-like comfort to attract discerning consumers.

UCSD Sulpizio Family Cardiovascular Center and Thornton Hospital Expansion
A 134,000-SF hospital expansion includes a state-of-the-art, comprehensive cardiovascular center for the John M. and Sally B. Thornton Hospital on the University of California, San Diego East Campus. The facility, which consolidates inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular services into one convenient center, will facilitate translational research and high-tech/high-touch patient care.

St. Agnes Hospital Campus
The new 192,000-SF St. Agnes campus revitalization project, which includes a bed tower addition, an 800-car garage, and various site improvements to ready the campus for the eventual phased replacement of the existing hospital, features a 74,000-SF renovation of the existing four-story bed tower, including a 29,000-SF renovation to the existing cancer center and central plant.

Tokyo Bay Rehabilitation Hospital
Healthcare Japan commissioned RTKL to provide architectural services for the new 90,000-SF rehabilitation hospital, constructed on Yatsu-Hoken’s existing campus. The 160-bed specialty hospital provides chronic care, including occupational and physical therapy for both inpatients and outpatients. It houses a full rehabilitation gym, a hair salon, and a Japanese or Tatami room.

John Radcliffe Hospital
As the architectural consultant for the John Radcliffe Hospital, RTKL created a design that addresses the need to strategically relocate the neurosciences department, as well as the adult head and neck specialty department, from the Radcliffe Infirmary to the main site. The 450,000-SF facility in Oxford, England, connects the existing facilities and incorporates a sustainability strategy.

The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital
Although construction had already commenced on the original design, RTKL was asked to serve as design advisor for this 1.9 million SF, 1,200-bed hospital facility. RTKL identified three main inefficiencies with the original design and was able to create a more flexible and space-efficient facility.
