A popular Manila shopping center gets a much-needed update to become a major mixed-use development.
Capitalizing on its upscale location in the thriving Greenhills neighborhood of Metro Manila, CallisonRTKL’s goal is to transform the landmark Greenhills Shopping Center into a dynamic mixed-use destination with retail, residential and offices. The design scheme features an innovative approach that blends the communal character of the traditional Filipino marketplace with the energetic atmosphere of Manila’s historical Main Street retail district. Sustainability is central to the design, incorporating trellises for shading spaces, locally quarried rock, natural ventilation and passive cooling for regulating building temperatures. A candidate for LEED certification, Greenhills Shopping Center is scheduled to reach completion by 2018 with retail components finished in 2014.
