Healthcare Strategic Facility Planning

Modifying, expanding or developing new healthcare facilities requires an integrated and multi-tracked planning approach. We facilitate every aspect of the decision-making process through clear communication and consensus building. From analyzing market dynamics and incorporating emerging technologies to rating customer demand and maximizing capital resources, we ensure that healthcare systems are in the best possible position for long-term advantages.

Featured Projects
Illinois Medical District, Springfield, Illinois
RTKL successfully master planned the development of the newly created Springfield Medical District. The one-square-mile district is in a high profile location adjacent to the Illinois Capital District. Its goal is to foster further investment and development through the growth of healthcare, health science, medical research, and emerging high technology enterprises.
Community Regional Medical Center, Fresno, California
RTKL developed a long-term program and site master plan for the proposed Central California Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno. The regional medical center campus incorporates several institutions—the existing CHCC Medical Center, the County Hospital replacement, and a new UCSF teaching facility—onto one campus serving Fresno and the Central Valley.
Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Lancaster General Hospital engaged RTKL to prepare strategic facility plans for two healthcare campuses in Lancaster, Pennsylvania: the main 480-bed regional medical center and trauma center, and a freestanding Women and Babies Hospital. Following the plans, RTKL has provided design services for the hospital on more than 20 renovation/expansion projects.
Lowell General Hospital, Lowell, Massachusetts
RTKL's strategic facility plan for this 200-bed community hospital responds to critical demands in the highly-competitive suburban Boston healthcare marketplace. The proposed plan includes adding approximately 100 acute-care private rooms and a new emergency department to support 60,000 visits per year.
Ray Brower AIA, Vice President
“Healthcare systems are building and expanding at an unprecedented pace. The capital resources they are committing to new construction will affect their business success well into the future. RTKL strategic planners have successfully minimized risk and maximized return on hospitals' investments by carefully examining local market dynamics to determine what will best serve the community and the hospital itself.”
